CHRISTIAN CHAPMAN Fight For Your Life 29th Sep 2017 - 11th Nov 2017 - International/Regional-Mixed media paintings/printmaking Gala Opening Reception-Friday September 29 @ 7pm-10pm Fight For Your Life: Internationally known artist Christian Chapman is of Anishinaabe heritage, from Fort William First Nation based in Northwestern Ontario. Chapman creates two dimensional mixed-media artworks that fuses elements of computer manipulated images, painting, drawing and printmaking. Chapman uses storytelling as a main theme inĀ his practice to create his images. The act of storytelling has been an important part of his life; it has informed him of his culture by shaping his identity, personal experiences and worldview. Chapman is an active and well recognized artist, not only in the region but has shown extensively throughout Canada and internationally, known for his powerful andĀ inventive visual art works. Chapman was recently honoured with the prestigious Ontario Premier Award as Emerging Artist of The Year, the K.M.Hunter Artist Award of the Ontario Arts Foundation, the Hnatyshyn Foundation Reveal Art National Award Prize and has been a recipient of numerous grants/awards including Ontario Arts Council’s Creation Grants and invited to many international residencies.
