Accosting The Ordinary is a solo exhibition of new works by Northwestern Ontario-based artist Elizabeth Buset (MFA-Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture-Finland). This exhibition is comprised of exciting new contemporary large-scale painting works which are an investigation into the tradition of realism, specifically its non-emblematic function in the still life genre. In Accosting the Ordinary, Buset recontextualizes mundane objects, through the effects of realism and juxtaposition, creating an alternative lexicon in which to articulate contemporary issues and addressing various ideologies pertaining to society and culture.  Buset is an active and well recognized artist in the region known for her powerful and inventive visual art works and is a mentor artist for the Die Active Art Collective, one of the largest new generation/youth collectives of its kind in Ontario. Buset has shown internationally throughout Europe (Russia, Germany, Scotland and Finland) and is a recipient of many grants/awards/bursaries including Ontario Arts Council’s Creation Grants. Join us for the Gala Opening Reception featuring Art-Music and two coinciding shows, catered and cool winter refreshments, artist talks and more! Gallery 2
