He has described himself as an urban artivist, he flyposts monumentally large black-and-white photographic images in public locations in a manner similarto the appropriation of the built environment by the graffiti artist. JR was winner of the TED prize in 2011 awarded to exceptional individuals especially for his groundbreaking work on Women Are Heroes in Brazil.
